Behind a solid performance from center fielder Jason Melton, the Myrtle Beach Seahawks defeated the Huntington Hermit Crabs, 4-3. Melton went 2-4 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Seahawks. Héctor García, now 5-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 6 and walking 0.
Melton had a game-changing home run in the top of the 12th. On a full count sinker from John Owens, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Seahawks a 4-3 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Melton.
Melton told a Myrtle Beach Citizen reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
Myrtle Beach is now 27-22, while Huntington is 39-10.
