Jets Fall Short, 5-4, at Monroeville
|
Monroeville beat Kennesaw at Dragoons War Memorial Stadium, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman John Bly. He went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Ed Jenkins finished the game for Monroeville and earned his 10th save. With the victory, the Yinzers upped their record to 50-40.
Bly came through with some timely hitting for Monroeville. With Kennesaw trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Bly hit a first pitch splitter for a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season made it 5-4, Monroeville.
In comments to the Monroeville Chronicle, Bly admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
