Vandals Top Seahawks, 3-2
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Seahwaks Stadium. But Joaquín Díaz conjured up just enough offense to carry the Vandals past the Myrtle Beach Seahawks, 3-2. Díaz slugged 2 home runs. Roberto Saldaña earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. "Lousy" describes the Myrtle Beach performance in the early going.
Eugene used the timely hitting of Christian Holt to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Vandals on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
When asked about his performance after the game, Díaz said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
