Matlacha got a terrific performance from pitcher Gordon Benjamin, but it wasn't enough to beat the Levittown Blue Dragons. Levittown won the The Cave at Levittown contest, 2-1. Benjamin threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Levittown reliever Matt Smith picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Gordon Benjamin was tagged with the loss. For the Manatees, the loss makes them 5-9.

Had Clinton Dotson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Dotson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Blue Dragons.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Levittown manager Frank Jackson said.
