The South Beach Blaze got a sterling performance from left fielder Koji Sugisata, but the Matlacha Manatees still prevailed, 6-4. Sugisata went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. The win lifts Matlacha to a record of 1-1.

Matlacha used the clutch hitting of Erik Willard to snag the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Manatees ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

In comments to the Matlacha Daily, Willard insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
