Mariachis Win, 6-2, at Ft. Polk South

The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis beat the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks by a score of 6-2. Nuevo Mexico left fielder Kennet Knoppert deserved the lion's share of the credit. Knoppert went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Mariachis. Dave Martin, the winner, improved to 1-3. He held Ft. Polk South to 2 runs on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The Mariachis now have a record of 22-32 with the win over Ft. Polk South.
Nuevo Mexico used a clutch hit from Ed Hicks to snatch the win. The catcher belted a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mariachis ahead, 6-2. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"I know we have our doubters," said Ft. Polk South manager John Anderson. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
