The Richland Rails eked out a 3-2 win versus the Athletic Club KC Academy at KC Academy Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Pepe Montoya. He was terrific. Montoya, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 6 walks. Picking up the save was Juan Trujillo, his 8th.
Richland got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Anthony Potter. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rails ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," Potter told the Richland Bulletin.
The Rails saw their win-loss record go to 13-23. At the same time, the Athletic Club KC Academy fell to 17-19.
