Fighting Imps Prevail, 4-3, Over Nuevo Mexico
|
The Ithaca Fighting Imps overcame a fine performance by Nuevo Mexico first baseman Jacob Evans to defeat the Mariachis, 4-3, at Mariachi Band Shell. Evans went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Steve Ward earned the win for Ithaca. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. The 4th-place Fighting Imps improved to 11-10.
Ithaca used the timely hitting of Bob Bray to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Fighting Imps on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Bray.
