St. Petersburg starter Gilberto Ruíz pitched well against the Squirrel Hill Pierogis at Field of the Rawhides. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-2. With the win, the Thunder improved to 43-50.

With runs few and far between, the Thunder had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for St. Petersburg came in the top of the fourth inning, when shortstop Alex Baxter delivered a 2-run single. The single was hit off Mané Garrincha and made the score 3-1, Thunder. Baxter was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Ruíz.
