In a tight game between the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and the Chesapeake Cangrejos Fantasmas, pitcher Brian Thomas was terrific on the mound. The Squirrel Hill left-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. Squirrel Hill is now 52-38. Chesapeake is 34-56.
Squirrel Hill used the clutch hitting of Jov Shantsev to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Pierogis the lead, 3-1. For the game, Shantsev had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
Afterward, Pierogis manager Marcos Costa was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
