The Minnesota Loons defeated the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 3-2, in USSL Double A action at Mercer Island Grounds. Minnesota pitcher Reynaldo Vázquez had a standout performance. Minnesota now sits at 34-36, while Mercer Island falls to 49-21.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Pedro Palgon's at-bat in the top of the eighth was vitally important. With one out, the Minnesota third baseman grounded out, driving in 1 run, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Mercer Island manager Ricardo Vargas.
