Armando Moreno was locked and loaded, helping the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles beat the Pine Island Dolphins, 3-1. Moreno went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-1. Shan-tang Yang picked up the save for Mercer Island, his 1st of the year.
The Screaming Eagles got an important contribution from left fielder Tom van Dam, who in the bottom of the sixth punched a 3-1 fastball into left for a run-scoring double. It was his 12th double of the season and put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 3-1.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Mercer Island manager Ricardo Vargas.
The second-place Screaming Eagles have won 4 consecutive games.
