The Squirrel Hill Pierogis downed the St. Petersburg Thunder, 9-7, at Field of the Rawhides. Freddie Cupp led the way, going 3-for-5 for Squirrel Hill. The winner was Squirrel Hill reliever Fred Miller, now 1-0. The loser was Manuel Villalobos. Squirrel Hill raised its record to 26-11 with the win.

The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Martin Lumley didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 3rd and St. Petersburg trailing 9-7, Lumley retired Orlando Ugía to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Lumley, with a wink.
