Nicolas Cernin never let Barton Springs get something going. The St. Petersburg left-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the Thunder to a 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Cernin, now 3-0. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. The win elevated the Thunder to 13-12.

Jim McClain, the 26-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. McClain contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put St. Petersburg up, 2-1.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said McClain.
