Marlins Earn 2-1 Win Versus Monsters
|
The Ft. Myers Marlins did just enough to sneak past the Monongahela Monsters, 2-1, at League Park. Ft. Myers pitcher Octávio Bernard, in particular, had a standout performance. Gary Norman earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 3-1. The loss makes Monongahela 55-43.
Had Benjamin Burrell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Burrell hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Marlins.
"Octávio was throwing strikes, locating well," said Ft. Myers manager Morton Kelly.
