Carlos Velardes left his imprint on the 7-5 Ft. Myers win against the Tortolita Drummers. Velardes, who is tied for 3rd in the SAAA in stolen bases with 9, was 2 for 3 with a double and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. John Palmer got credit for the win, improving to 2-6. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. Ft. Myers, at 24-41, sits in last place in the Silver AAA.
Velardes had a game-changing double in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 changeup from Tony Correa, he banged a bases-clearing double to left, giving the Marlins a 6-3 lead. It was the 8th double of the year for Velardes.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Velardes told a Ft. Myers Chronicle reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
