The Syracuse Starks got a magnificent performance from pitcher Jorge Vázquez, who muffled the Salt Lake City offense en route to a tight 1-0 Starks win at Spirits Stadium. In 7.1 innings, Vázquez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Cisco García closed the door for Syracuse, picking up his 7th save of the year.

The result might have been different for Syracuse, had it not been for Pedro Costa, the 30-year old catcher . Costa stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Syracuse up, 1-0. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
