Atoms Suffer 12-11 Setback
|
Bethesda left fielder Andrew McCaffery had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 12-11, to St. Petersburg at Baby Thunder Dome. McCaffery went 5 for 6 with 5 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner in relief was Matt Doran. He is now 1-0. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2.1 innings. The loss drops Bethesda to 0-2.
The game ended with a bang. In the bottom of the ninth, with St. Petersburg trailing 11-9, Orlando Ugía jumped on a 1-1 knuckle curve from Tuomi Hattunen for a 3-run home run, sending the Thunder to a walk-off win.
"Great to get the crowd on its feet," Ugía said.
