Skidding Squirrel Monkeys Lose 6th Straight
|
In a low-scoring clash between Kansas and Syracuse, pitcher Byron Vyse was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 win. Kansas reliever Carl Harris picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. Salvador Sosa absorbed the loss. António Vázquez closed the door for Kansas, picking up his 12th save of the year.
Kansas used the timely hitting of Juan Méndez to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainbeaus on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Byron was able to execute his pitches," said Kansas manager Jim Thornton. "Simple as that."
The slumping Squirrel Monkeys have dropped 6 in a row.
