The Baton Rouge Brass did just enough to secure a victory over the Syracuse Starks, 3-2, at Brass Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Herb Willis. Willis picked up the win for Baton Rouge, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. The save went to Ronnie Gómez, his 3rd this season.
The Brass got a big at-bat from left fielder Bill Palmer. For the game, Palmer was 1-3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 2nd double of the season gave Baton Rouge a 3-1 lead.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Palmer told the Baton Rouge Bulletin.
The win elevated the Brass to 12-11.
