The Baton Rouge Brass overcame a fine performance by Hialeah first baseman Rick McCarthy to defeat the Dodos, 4-3, at Brass Field. McCarthy was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Baton Rouge reliever Kelly Knowles picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Jack Elvidge was tagged with the loss. Hialeah is 7-7 after the loss.

The Brass relied on center fielder Karl Monks for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 13th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring double to seal the deal.

"It was a test of wills," said Daniel Edwards, the Baton Rouge skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
