Fighting Dachshunds Stop Red Pandas, 4-3
|
Ellenburg picked up a win at The Bamboo Forest, bumping off the Sioux Falls Red Pandas, 4-3. Pitcher Cecil Drabek was a major reason the Fighting Dachshunds emerged victorious. Drabek, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Bernardo Hernández earned the save for Ellenburg, his 1st.
The Red Pandas had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Fighting Dachshunds going into the top of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old center fielder Fernan Espinoza came to the plate. Espinoza hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Sioux Falls hurler Wilton Rich. It was Espinoza's 1st home run of the year.
Drabek told a Ellenburg Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The win gives Ellenburg a record of 3-2.
