The Buckhead Bowties racked up a win at 5 Paces Park, bumping off the Detroit Elite, 5-4. Uhi Ahipene, who started for Buckhead, pitched effectively for his team. Inunnguaq Lovstrom, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Walt Gould earned the save for Buckhead, his 6th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jimmy Lanyon came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Joe Allen, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Buckhead on top, 5-4.
"Uhi was throwing strikes, locating well," said Buckhead manager Kerry Hofmeister.
The triumph puts Buckhead at 13-12 for the season.
