The Long Island Lighthouse and Pittsburgh Kingfishers obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.
The Long Island Lighthouse beat the Pittsburgh Kingfishers by a score of 5-4. Long Island designated hitter Jonas van Claveren deserved the lion's share of the credit. van Claveren went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Lighthouse. Manuel Martínez picked up the win with 7.2 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 8-9.
With Long Island leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third, van Claveren hit a fastball from Cipriano Rosas for a 3-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Lighthouse ahead, 5-0.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said van Claveren.
The 9th-place Lighthouse are now 43-54, the Kingfishers 52-45.
