League Punishes Pair for Fighting
Wednesday, August 25th , 2049
Yesterday at Nebraska Aquarium Javier Fanego and John Gibbons got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Ogallala Octopi and Tulsa Otters. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Fanego will have to sit out 4 while Gibbons would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
Fanego is hitting .170 so far this season with 4 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 8 hits including 1 home run, 7 walks and .316 OBP.
So far this season, Gibbons has logged a 1-3 record with a 4.27 ERA. He has started 9 games, hurled 52.2 innings and registered 50 strikeouts and 11 walks.
