Hounds End Bernasconi's Streak Thursday, July 1st , 2049 Memphis third baseman Giobbe Bernasconi came into today's game against the Hicksville Hounds on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Hounds did their jobs well, beating the Memphis Music 7-1 and holding Bernasconi hitless to snap his 21-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old third baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-3, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Giobbe did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Music manager Dave Everett. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 21 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." This year Bernasconi is batting .360 with 7 home runs and 18 RBIs. In 22 games he has scored 14 times. |
