U-18 End Álvarez's Streak Monday, August 24th , 2048 It was the best of both worlds for the MSL Athletic Club KC U-18 today at MSL Mississippi Ballpark, as they defeated the MSL Mississippi Mockingbirds 5-4 and also snapped José Álvarez's 28-game hitting streak. The 17-year-old MSL Mississippi right fielder failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Álvarez, we just wanted to win the game," said U-18 skipper Gil Schmidt. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Álvarez frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." Álvarez is hitting .402 for the season with 1 home run, 15 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 66 hits in 164 at-bats and played in 41 games. |
