Rowdy Players Suspended by League Tuesday, July 14th , 2048 Yesterday at Marquette Stadium Les Gillett and Iukekini Kaliona got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Marquette Miners and Westwood Sixshooters. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Gillett will have to sit out 5 while Kaliona would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year Gillett has collected a .333 batting average to date with 41 hits in 123 at-bats, 15 RBIs, 2 home runs and scored 13 times. He has played in 31 games. This season Kaliona has compiled a 1-1 mark, 5.33 ERA and made 5 starts. |
