Ardiles on a Tear, Hits for Cycle
Friday, September 18th , 2048
Osvaldo Ardiles did everything he could for the Athletic Club KC today -- literally.
The 25-year-old center fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Athletic Club KC, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 11-3, at Athletics Park.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Ardiles reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Ardiles banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Osvaldo Ardiles hit a solo-shot off Javier Ariza in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This season Ardiles is batting .272 with 9 home runs. His totals include 64 RBIs and 57 runs scored.
