Riikonen Blasts Comets, Hermit Crabs Take Game 2, 4-3
|
Huntington first baseman Ahti Riikonen was the difference-maker for the Hermit Crabs in what turned into a shootout with the Kent Comets. Riikonen earned accolades after going 3-for-4 in the 4-3 Hermit Crabs win. With the victory, the Hermit Crabs moved into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Riikonen delivered big-time for Huntington, stroking a dramatic solo home run off Shang-de Rang. The game-changing hit put the Hermit Crabs on top, 4-3.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Kent manager John McGrath. "But we decided not to take it."
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Fuller Park in Kent.
