The Franklin Fire got a sterling performance from pitcher Quentin Gamble, but the Long Island Ducks still prevailed, 5-4. Gamble threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. José Pérez recorded the save, his 11th. Long Island is now 36-48. Franklin is 38-46.
Had Shigochiyo Baba not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Baba hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Ducks.
"Winning never gets dull," said Baba.
