The South Beach Blaze got a strong performance from pitcher David Sullivan, who stymied the Eugene offense en route to a win, 5-2, at The Ballpark on the Beach. The winning pitcher was Sullivan, now 1-0. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6. Stuart Fossett got credit for the save for South Beach. It was his 3rd of the year.

The Vandals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blaze going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher Joe Hurley came to the plate. Hurley hit a 2-run home run on a full count cutter from Eugene hurler Carroll Harris. It was Hurley's 5th home run of the year.

"Winning never gets dull," said Hurley.

The Blaze' win now puts them at 39-29.
