Hawks Take Down Vandals, 8-7
|
Laredo designated hitter Jon Melanson helped his team beat the Eugene Vandals, 8-7. Melanson, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2045 draft, went 2 for 3 for the Hawks. Michael Donovan, now 2-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Dan Watson sewed up the save, his 10th.
Melanson had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Félix Hernández, he banged a bases-clearing double to center, giving the Hawks a 8-7 lead. It was the 8th double of the year for Melanson.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Eugene manager Aaron Barnes. "The effort was great."
Their 30-21 record puts the Hawks second in the Premier A.
