Yinzers Get One-Run Win at Grand Forks
|
The Monroeville Yinzers faced a tough opponent in Grand Forks pitcher Neung-uk Yi, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Cocoon by a final score of 3-2. Yi went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Júlio Castillo, the winner, goes to 6-7. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts over 7.2 innings. Gerald Currer finished to wrap up his 11th save.
Monroeville used the timely hitting of Ignacio Villanueva to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Yinzers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Afterward, Yinzers manager Fred Leos was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Monroeville is now riding a 3-game win streak.
