Murunga Goes Off, But Hawks Win
|
The Laredo Hawks weathered a fine game by Idaho Falls left fielder Gaballah Murunga to upend the Chukars, 8-7, at Idaho Falls Park. Murunga belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Laredo reliever Kelsey Conrad was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Perry Walik took the loss. Laredo leads the Premier A by 2 games.
Laredo used a timely hit from Edmund Benson to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hawks ahead, 8-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Hawks manager Marv Bradford. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
