Vandals Hang 5-1 Loss on Blaze

Patrick Saunders never let South Beach get something going. The Eugene right-hander commanded his curveball in pitching the Vandals to a 5-1 win. Saunders got the win, improving to 1-2. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 6 innings. Saunders allowed no runs. Kyle Chambers earned the save, his 7th, for the Vandals.
With runs few and far between, the Vandals had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Eugene came in the bottom of the third inning, when designated hitter Ron Brown delivered a 2-run single. The single was hit off Jorge Enríquez and made the score 2-0, Vandals. Brown was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
In postgame comments to the Eugene News, Saunders said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The 8th-place Vandals now have a win-loss record of 14-18.
