Both teams had their chances, but the South Beach Blaze eventually prevailed.
Eugene got a terrific game from designated hitter Ron Brown. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to South Beach, 2-1. Brown was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. The save went to Iiri Lahti, his 1st this season.
South Beach right fielder Sasha Mamchenko contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 14th hit of the season and put the Blaze ahead, 2-1.
"We put together a nice win," Mamchenko said.
The loss has the Vandals at 5-6.
