Caterpillars Fall to Hermit Crabs, 8-6
|
The Huntington Hermit Crabs defeated the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 8-6, in USSL Single A action at The Shell. Huntington pitcher Mark Hodge had a standout performance. In 8.1 innings, Hodge surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 4 runs. The Caterpillars drop to 7-8 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2048 season.
Had Ahti Riikonen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Riikonen hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Hermit Crabs.
"Winning is contagious," said Riikonen. "We're looking forward to the next game."
