Lewis, Comets Too Much for Yellows
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Kent Comets and Yucca Valley Yellows.
The Kent Comets topped the Yucca Valley Yellows by the score of 6-4, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Ernie Lewis. Lewis went 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Comets. Gary Norman got the win, improving to 2-0. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Keith Thomas? The Kent right fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Comets on top, 4-2. For the game, Thomas had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Lewis told the Kent Observer.
Early on, the Comets, at 12-3, have excelled.
