Yucca Valley first baseman Ahvo Holkeri had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Holkeri was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk, even as Delmarva beat the Yellows, 6-5. Clay Perkins, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Yellows to 1 run on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 0. With the win, Delmarva elevates its record to 4-3.
The Gallos got a big hit from right fielder Francis Kersey. In the top of the fifth, Kersey pounded a 2-run double to right. His 2nd double of the season put the Gallos ahead, 4-1.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Kersey, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
