The Virginia Beach Whales topped the Richland Rails by the score of 5-3, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Dan Parker. Parker was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Whales. William Pettersen got credit for the save for Virginia Beach. It was his 12th of the year. The Whales saw their win-loss record go to 39-52. At the same time, the Rails fell to 36-55.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Walt Reed was at the plate when Virginia Beach scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Whales to go in front, 4-3.
