The Kingston Mangos did just enough to secure a victory over the Syracuse Storm, 3-2, at Mango Yard. Nobody did more than pitcher Boyd Vélez. Vélez, now 6-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Ronald Johnson got the save, the 1st for him this season.
The Mangos got a lift from second baseman Conceição Adriano, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season put the Mangos on top, 3-0.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Kingston manager William Smith. "Our pregame was pretty good."
With the win, Kingston raised its record to 24-15.
