The Richland Rails got a superb performance from pitcher Manny Guerra, but the Virginia Beach Whales still won the game, 7-4. Guerra threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. William Pettersen got the save, the 7th for him this season. The Rails, at 17-41, have lost 4 straight games.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Lee Montgomery to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whales on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Montgomery told a Virginia Beach Daily reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
