Turbeaus Down Mariachis, 5-3
|
Nuevo Mexico got a decent performance from pitcher Markus Magee, but it wasn't enough to beat the Gulf Coast Turbeaus. Gulf Coast won the Mariachi Band Shell contest, 5-3. Magee threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Kanne Kaspers snagged the win in relief. In 3 innings, the right-hander allowed 1 run on 5 hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. Gulf Coast is now 26-19.
Had Alex Johnston not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Johnston hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Turbeaus.
In comments to the Gulf Coast Times, Johnston insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
