Late Magic Gets Minnesota 3-1 Win
Virginia Beach Grounds was the site of a tense game between the Virginia Beach Whales and Minnesota Loons.

Minnesota starter Reynaldo Vázquez put a stranglehold on the Virginia Beach offense. The right-hander had complete command of his screwball in leading the Loons to a 3-1 win. Harry Richter locked down his 9th save.

Minnesota used the timely hitting of Sumitomo Shimizu to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Loons on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Vázquez called the win "a team effort."

The 8th-place Whales have lost 5 straight games.
