Virginia Beach designated hitter Jason Hawkins was a significant contributor in his team's 8-5 triumph over the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles. He belted 2 home runs, while scoring 4 times and driving in 4 for Virginia Beach. The winner in relief was William Pettersen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. Hawkins had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a full count fastball from Mike Barraza, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Whales a 8-5 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Hawkins.
