Rails Upend Thunder Hawks, 2-1

Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks home opener. Mark Brunswick started for the home team against Kensaku Sanu for the Richland Rails. The Thunder Hawks were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 2-1, Richland. Pablo Olartecoechea, though, was impressive. Mark Kiner came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Robinson Espinoza sewed up the save, his 1st.
Richland used a well-timed hit by Vicente Mendoza to capture the win. The catcher socked a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Rails ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Ft. Polk South skipper John Anderson, "and it cost us."
