The Tacoma Fur Traders got a sterling performance from pitcher Norberto Duarte, but the Virginia Beach Whales still prevailed, 5-4. Duarte threw 7.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Getting the save was Bill Gould, his 19th. The 9th-place Fur Traders have lost 9 straight games.
The result might have been different for Virginia Beach, had it not been for Emílio Soto, the 22-year old center fielder . Soto stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Virginia Beach up, 5-4. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Whales manager Domingo García, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
