Fighting Imps Sneak By Polar Bears, 5-4
|
The Ithaca Fighting Imps did just enough to secure a victory over the Billings Polar Bears, 5-4, at Imps Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Ánibal Fernández. Ithaca reliever Mike Hopkins picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Jon Abood shouldered the loss. Xin-fang Zha got the save, the 15th for him this season.
José López drove in one run for Ithaca. The 25-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Jon Abood. It was his 23rd RBI of the season.
In postgame comments to the Ithaca Bulletin, Fernández said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Fighting Imps now have a record of 39-40.
