Guinea Pigs Beat Toledo, 3-2
|
Toledo got a terrific performance from pitcher Pablo Montoya, but it wasn't enough to beat the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs. Gwinnett won the Toledo Backyard Park contest, 3-2. Montoya threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The save went to Francisco Díaz, his 19th this season. The Silver AA-leading Guinea Pigs have a record of 42-16.
Gwinnett used the clutch hitting of Freek Derksen to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Gwinnett skipper Cody Jaeckel. "I can't complain."
